Letters :: What thinkers do you admire? (1.0)

Last week I wrote an appeal asking for letters, whether they come through USPS or via email.  Thus far, I have received one note from the U.K., and enjoyed a wonderful exchange.

In order to prompt discussion, I'm launching a series of suggestions. Here is my first question:

What authors, intellectuals, leaders, relatives, or friends have inspired you to think more carefully about the world, aiding your own intellectual development?  Can you narrow your list down to one person who was most important?  Was there a moment, an event, a book, a lecture, or a conversation that marked a particular transition, a challenge, where your intellectual pursuits shifted in to a higher gear?

I have stories of my own development.  The list of thinkers who have influenced me is lengthy.

Please write.  Here is my address:

I hope to hear from you soon, if not via the post, then perhaps via email.  Blessings.
